Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council received 200 complaints related to waste services during the three-month period from October to December 2025. DUP Councillor Paul Dunlop raised the figure at a Policy and Governance Committee meeting held at Antrim Civic Centre on Tuesday evening.

Dunlop inquired whether all complainants received acknowledgments. He noted significant complaints before and after Christmas due to difficulties contacting the service. An officer confirmed that direct contacts with the waste team received discussion and updates for official complaints.

Dunlop expressed hope that follow-up actions addressed the issues and reduced future complaints. Councillors called for Bryson Recycling representatives to attend a meeting and explain recent bin emptying delays across Antrim and Newtownabbey.

The councillors also requested an update on the waste harmonisation project, which introduced wheelie box recycling bins in the Antrim area last year. Shane Logan, chief executive of Bryson Charitable Group, issued a public apology at the council's January meeting for service levels that failed resident expectations.
