Lisburn and Castlereagh Council Confirms Wheelie Bin Retentions
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has confirmed that residents with 240-litre residual waste bins will keep them under new collection arrangements.
Residents who currently have 180-litre bins will be able to upgrade to 240-litre bins at no cost.
The policy ends the use of kerbie boxes in Castlereagh, replacing them with wheelie bins to create a uniform system across the district.
The council will introduce larger co-mingled dry recycling bins, with rollout scheduled to begin next year in areas including Four Winds, Carryduff, Newtownbreda and Castlereagh South.
Alderman Paul Porter welcomed the change, noting that three and a half years of consultations had returned the authority to its previous position on bin sizes.
Councillor John Gallen said the SDLP had campaigned for the recycling wheelie bin rollout for years.
Chairperson Owen Gawith stated the updated service would make recycling simpler and more consistent across the area.
