NI Water starts sewer relining works in the Solitude Park area of Banbridge on Monday, March 16. The project lasts around 10 days and aims to strengthen the local sewer network while reducing flooding risks outside sewers.

Solitude Park stays open during the works, though temporary path diversions apply near work zones. Daily traffic management runs on Rathfriland Street from 09:30 to 16:30 to support construction machinery. From March 16 to 19, the street closes to through traffic between Erinvale Terrace and Rathfriland Road or Kenlis Street, with a diversion via Erinvale Terrace, Townsend Street, and Kenlis Street.

A lane closure follows on Rathfriland Street between Erinvale Terrace and Rathfriland Road from March 19 to 25. No work occurs on March 17, when the road remains fully open. Property access continues throughout, with possible minor delays. Pedestrians can use Rathfriland Street and Solitude Park.

NI Water Senior Project Manager Robert McLean stated the relining improves sewer reliability, cuts blockage risks, and protects the environment from flooding. He noted the work uses existing manholes to limit excavation. McLean added that traffic controls end daily at 16:30 and urged following signs and watching for construction vehicles mid to late March. NI Water, AECOM, and GEDA thanked residents, businesses, park users, and drivers for their patience.
