Derry Comhaltas Branch Marks Tenth Year Promoting Traditional Irish Arts
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Baile na gCailleach held tenth anniversary celebrations at Studio 2 in Galliagh on Saturday. The event drew participants from the Leinster Youth Comhaltas Group across 12 counties, Glengormley Music Group, and areas including Co. Donegal and Co. Derry.
Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy addressed MLAs at Stormont on Monday to recognise the branch's work. He stated that the group has promoted traditional Irish music, song, dance, and language in Derry for ten years through weekly classes for young people and adults.
Delargy noted the branch hosted Fleadh Mhór Dhoire last year and its members performed at St Patrick's Day events in Guildhall Square. Members also appeared on RTÉ Radio 1's Céilí House, recorded in Derry on two occasions, and took part in other events. He highlighted successes at Feis Dhoire Cholmcille and competitions.
The MLA credited founding members from the Molloy family, along with committee members, tutors, volunteers, and families for the achievement. He expressed confidence in the branch's ongoing role in Derry's cultural life, including representation at this year's fleadh in Belfast.
