Belfast Set to Host All-Ireland Fleadh in 2026 and 2027
Belfast will host Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the All-Ireland Fleadh, in the summer of 2026. Organisers Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann announced the event will return to the city in 2027. The festival, recognised as the world's largest dedicated to Irish music and dance, draws hundreds of thousands of attendees.
The event last took place in Northern Ireland in Londonderry in 2013. Brendan McAleer of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, from Omagh in County Tyrone, stated the festival offers a platform for young local musicians. He noted a surge in traditional music across Northern Ireland and expects visitors from outside Ireland.
Arthur McAnerney, who runs City Picnic in Belfast city centre, plans to increase stock and staff for the festival. Dónal O'Connor, artistic director of Belfast Tradfest and a traditional musician, said the hosting demonstrates confidence in the city's event capabilities. He anticipates opportunities for local performers to showcase regional music.
Claire Kieran, an Irish traditional music producer who established the Belfast Traditional Music Trail, described Belfast's strong tradition in the genre. Keith Lane of Norn Irish Gift Shop in the city centre expects benefits from tourist spending in retail.
