Derry City and Strabane District Council has launched a public consultation on its draft Corporate Improvement Objectives for 2026/27. Residents, businesses and community organisations can submit views until noon on April 27.

The draft outlines five priority areas: inclusive growth, health and wellbeing, environmental enhancement, economic partnership and customer service improvement.

Plans under inclusive growth involve advancing a £711m Capital Development Programme, which includes City Deal and Inclusive Future Fund projects.

Health and wellbeing efforts target improved participation in leisure, sport and physical activity, especially for underrepresented groups, with a goal of 8,000 annual participants from all backgrounds.

Environmental work focuses on protecting natural and built assets while enhancing the local environment.

Economic partnership initiatives include forming a Local Economic Partnership, creating an action plan and implementing its first year.

Customer service aims to monitor complaints handling across services and ensure accessibility of services and information.

Chief executive John Kelpie stated that public feedback is essential to align council work with local needs and support continuous improvement.
