SERC Access Course Builds Foundations for Student's University Plans
South Eastern Regional College has opened applications for full-time courses, with open evenings set for 4pm to 7pm on Thursday 5 March at Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards campuses.
Lydia joined a University Access course at her local SERC campus after finishing her GCSEs. She picked the programme for its location and endorsements from family and friends with prior college experience.
The course covers psychology, biology and mathematics, alongside choices such as English and politics. Participants study concepts including humanistic perspectives on personal growth, biological factors in genetics and brain activity, and B.F. Skinner's Skinner Box experiment on behaviour modification via rewards and penalties.
Lydia aims to pursue degrees in psychology and criminology or criminology and law. These access programmes equip school leavers without A-levels with qualifications needed for higher education entry.
She rated SERC instruction higher than at school, citing tutors who offer detailed help and motivation. The college library provides quick computers and ample study materials.
Lydia endorsed the college for its approachable staff and students plus consistent emotional and academic backing in a supportive setting.
