Motorists in Enniskillen are facing delays as two separate roadworks projects on the Cornagrade Road take place simultaneously, prompting the PSNI to issue a traffic warning.

The Department for Infrastructure began a £225,000 resurfacing scheme on the A32 Cornagrade Road on 31 July. The work covers 460 metres between the Queen Elizabeth Roundabout and Erne Drive and is scheduled for substantial completion by 14 August. The road is closed to through traffic between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm on weekdays, with diversions in place via Queen Elizabeth Road, Belmore Street, Forthill Street, Irvinestown Road and Cherrymount Road. Access is maintained for residents and emergency vehicles.

Separately, NI Water started a six-week programme on 3 August to lay approximately 400 metres of water mains between Cherrymount Roundabout and the second entrance to Kilmacormick Road. That project involves temporary traffic lights and a single lane closure around the clock.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said the resurfacing investment demonstrated her commitment to improving the road network, which she described as vital for connecting businesses and communities.

Sinn Fein councillor Dermot Browne said he learned of the resurfacing works only the day before they began and acknowledged that having both projects underway at the same time was not ideal. He urged drivers to be patient and allow extra time for journeys.

Councillor Roy Crawford welcomed the infrastructure upgrades but stressed the importance of managing traffic flow, particularly during peak hours, and ensuring emergency service access and minimal disruption to local businesses.

The PSNI advised road users to expect congestion in the area and to seek alternative routes. The overlapping works follow the recent closure of the A32 Irvinestown Road between Cherrymount Roundabout and the South West Acute Hospital, which caused significant delays.
