Construction work on the redevelopment of Enniskillen Library is expected to begin in autumn 2026, Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has confirmed.

The contract for the project is due to be awarded during the summer, with procurement now at an advanced stage.

More than £750,000 has been secured for the scheme. The investment was confirmed after the minister visited the existing facility and heard directly from library staff about the need for improvement.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone DUP MLA Deborah Erskine said she had been pressing for a modern library to serve the town. She described libraries as important community resources that provide access to learning, digital services and social opportunities, particularly in rural areas.

Mrs Erskine said she would continue to monitor progress and engage with the department and Libraries NI to ensure the project remains on schedule.
