TG4 to mark 30 years on air with new platform and campaign
TG4 will celebrate thirty years on air this year, having first broadcast as Teilifís na Gaeilge on 21 October 1996. The broadcaster has since become a cornerstone for Irish language media and community.
To mark the anniversary, TG4 is launching a new brand campaign called 'Súil Eile' and a new version of its player, TG4+. The new platform will launch on 31 October and will serve as a destination for viewers to access TG4 content.
The organisation also plans to establish a digital news service for Nuacht TG4, a development that has been in planning for several years.
Ard-Stiúrthóir TG4 Deirdre Ní Choistín said the new brand offers a different view of life in Ireland and is about more than just Irish language broadcasting.
Ní Choistín said she does not want TG4 to simply adapt to a changing media sector, but rather to help shape its future.
TG4 said it wants to secure fair funding and ensure easy access for viewers, which it describes as vital to fulfilling its public service remit.
The broadcaster works regularly with independent production companies in Belfast, collaborating with the Irish Language Broadcast Fund of Northern Ireland Screen.
TG4 also stated that its core purpose is to provide a distinctive public service media that serves the audience, strengthens the language, and enriches Ireland's cultural and creative life.
