The funerals of a mother and her young daughter who were killed in Ballymena were held at a church in the town, as police continued to appeal for information.

The bodies of Emilia Daczkowski, 39, and Alicja Daczkowski, 8, were discovered at their home on the Old Cullybackey Road on July 13. The PSNI are treating the deaths as a murder-suicide, with the death of Piotr Daczkowski, Emilia’s husband and Alicja’s father, forming part of the investigation.

Around 300 people attended the service at All Saints’ Church, including Jerome Mullen, the honorary consul of the Republic of Poland in Northern Ireland. Family members traveled from Poland and London to be present.

Parish priest Fr Michael McGinnity told the congregation that the family was facing painful days as they tried to come to terms with their loss. Prayers were said in both Polish and English, including for the staff and pupils of St Colmcille’s Primary School, which Alicja attended.

The PSNI described the scene when emergency services arrived at the house as shocking. Detectives have urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.

The Daczkowski family had lived in Northern Ireland for 14 years, originally from Poland. They had been in Cullybackey for 10 years. Alicja was born in Northern Ireland and was fluent in both languages.
