Russell Brand has been found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court in London. The jury returned the verdict on Thursday after deliberating on evidence from six women who accused Brand of offenses committed between 1999 and 2009.

Brand, 51, was remanded into custody by the judge following the verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday next week. He faces a lengthy prison term and will be placed on the sex offenders' register.

During the trial, prosecutors said Brand used his fame to pursue sexual contact and treated women as disposable. The court heard testimony from women who described forced encounters, including a woman who said Brand raped her in his London home in 2009 after earlier consensual sex turned violent.

Brand was acquitted of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. He denied all allegations and claimed the cases were part of a media conspiracy.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who led the Metropolitan Police investigation, said the women showed extraordinary courage in coming forward. He said Brand used his influence and status to prey on women and that the conviction sends a message that no one is above the law.

The case began after media reports in September 2023 detailed accusations against Brand. Following those reports, several women contacted police, leading to the charges. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that investigations into two additional rape allegations are ongoing.

Brand rose to fame as a comedian, television presenter, and actor, and later became known for his podcasts and wellness commentary. He did not call any witnesses in his defence during the trial.
