A funeral service took place at St Mary’s Church in Killyclogher on Monday for Rosaleen Anne Colgan. She died at Three Rivers Nursing Home aged 97 surrounded by family.

Father Kevin McElhennon led the service. He described Colgan as a wife to the late Francis and mother to Philip, Eamon, Barney, Anne Marie, Paul, Kieran and the late Kevin.

McElhennon noted that Colgan took in children of a friend for several years while raising her own six young children.

Colgan trained as a nurse in Omagh after cycling long distances from Tempo. She continued training in England and later reunited with Francis at a dance in Fintona.

The priest said nursing defined her approach to life. People sought her help during illness or death in their homes.

McElhennon mentioned losses including husband Francis during a pilgrimage in Lourdes and son Kevin soon after. Colgan stayed committed to her faith.

She lived in the parish over 60 years and volunteered for charity work.
