Police in Limavady conducted an extensive search on Thursday evening after receiving a report that a man had been acting threateningly towards children in a park.

The search, involving local officers, an air support helicopter, and armed response units, covered the Benevenagh Drive area. No one matching the description provided was found.

The initial report was made at around 8.55pm. It stated that a man told children to leave the park in a threatening manner. Social media posts later alleged the man had made sexualised comments.

Inspector Roxborough of the PSNI said the sexualised comments were not part of the report received by police. He emphasised the seriousness with which the force treats any reported threat to children, pointing to the substantial resources deployed.

Police have asked the public to refrain from speculation and instead provide any information they may have. Reports can be made online quoting reference 1577 of 23/07/26, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
