A security alert in the Rosapenna Parade area of north Belfast led to the evacuation of nearby homes during the early hours of Friday, July 17. The PSNI said the alert was triggered by the search of a property.

Cordons were put in place around Rosapenna Street and Cliftonville Road, and the public has been told to avoid the area. Motorists are advised that Cliftonville Road will experience heavy traffic delays, especially during the morning commute, and they should plan alternative journeys.

The Ardoyne Community Centre was opened to accommodate residents who had to leave their homes. Police stated that public safety is their main concern and thanked those affected for their patience. Officers remain at the scene to carry out further enquiries, and a further update is expected.

The exact cause of the alert has not been disclosed.
