Lidl has applied for permission to knock down its existing food store in Lisnaskea and replace it with a significantly larger building.

The new unit would span 2,646 square metres, an increase of 746 square metres on the current footprint. Additional car parking is also planned.

The German discounter has operated at the site for more than 20 years, having first secured planning approval in October 2004. The application says the present store is too small for the company’s newest concept and a rebuilt outlet would bring a state-of-the-art premises to the town.

The proposal argues that an upgraded store would provide a modern and appealing retail space, strengthening Lisnaskea’s position as a food shopping destination.

It also points to a council household survey showing significant numbers of local shoppers travelling to Enniskillen for their main grocery shop. The larger store is intended to curb that outflow and keep more custom within the town.
