Kneecap to Headline Féile Charity Gig in Falls Park, Proceeds to Fund Irish Language Hubs
Kneecap, the Irish language rap trio, will headline a charity concert at Falls Park in west Belfast on August 6 as part of the Féile an Phobail community arts festival. The Uppa Falls gig will raise money for two Irish language projects.
Proceeds will go to Glór na Móna, a west Belfast-based organisation, for the construction of its Croí na Carraige youth and community hub, and to Seán Dolans GAC in Derry for its An tSíol Irish language initiative. Organisers expect the event to generate a six-figure sum, with Glór na Móna receiving the largest share.
Tickets will be available from July 13 at 10am on Ticketmaster.ie. Support acts include Bob Vylan, Miss Kaninna and Liambo Slice, selected by Kneecap.
Glór na Móna, founded in 2004, says the donation will help close the final funding gap for Croí na Carraige, described as the first multi-purpose Irish language youth facility of its kind in Northern Ireland. Conchur O Muadaigh, chairperson, said the investment turns years of community organising into lasting infrastructure.
Seán Dolans GAC, founded in 1942 in Creggan, Derry, plans to launch An tSíol, offering Irish language classes for adults and immersion activities for younger players, with the use of podcasts and digital learning tools. Club chairperson Danny Cassidy said the intention is to place the Irish language at the centre of daily club life.
Kneecap members Mo Chara (Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) and Móglaí Bap (Naoise Ó Cairealláin) originate from west Belfast, while DJ Próvaí (JJ Ó Dochartaigh) is from Derry. The band are known for their activism around the Irish language.
Féile an Phobail, established in 1988, runs from July 25 to August 9, with over 700 events this year. Festival director Kevin Gamble said Kneecap's involvement ensures a substantial contribution to the local community and described the gig as the biggest concert line-up in the festival's history.
