An extra 1,000 tickets for Kneecap’s upcoming Féile an Phobail concert were released on Friday morning, drawing queues that stretched around the Falls Road venue well before the 10am sale time.

The tickets were available from Áras na bhFál, the community hub in west Belfast. Some hopeful concertgoers arrived as early as 7am to secure a spot.

Seáinín Nig Eoghain travelled from Portadown. She said she had never attended a Kneecap performance but her daughter is a fan. She added that the band had done much to promote the Irish language and that they listened to their music on the drive up.

Corey Houston, from Ballymurphy, was also attending his first Kneecap concert. He became interested in the group after learning they attended the same school as him. He noted that their connection to the local area is important.

Gráinne Carson emphasised the significance of a band from a working-class background achieving international recognition. She said the group does not exclude and invests in both sides of the community. She described their live shows as always entertaining.

Kneecap, a Belfast-based Irish-language rap trio, have gained a global following. Their concert is part of the annual Féile an Phobail festival.
