A full site survey for a proposed pedestrian crossing on Moore Street in Aughnacloy will begin after the new school year starts, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has said. The decision follows an initial assessment that met the threshold for further consideration.

Responding to a question from Sinn Fein MLA Colm Gildernew at the Northern Ireland Assembly, Ms Kimmins said road safety was a high priority for her department. She confirmed that an initial site survey had already been carried out and that the location qualified for a more detailed study.

The minister noted that the number of children crossing the road is a key factor because Moore Street is close to a school. Starting the full survey after the school year begins will provide the most realistic evidence base, she said.

Once the full survey is completed, the proposal will be assessed for potential inclusion in a Local Transport and Safety Measures programme, subject to the availability of resources. No construction timeline has been announced.
