Coleraine Irish Cup heroes to be honoured with town centre celebration
A community celebration to honour Coleraine Football Club’s Irish Cup victory will take place in Coleraine town centre on Saturday, July 4. The event is being organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in partnership with Coleraine Connect.
The event followed a Notice of Motion proposed by Alderman Mark Fielding and seconded by Councillor Tanya Elder which called on the council to formally recognise the achievements of manager Ruaidhri Higgins’ side.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, described the cup win as a proud moment for the entire borough. She thanked her council colleagues for bringing the motion forward and said the celebration would give supporters, families and the wider community an opportunity to come together.
Coleraine Connect Chairman Johnny Fielding said he was pleased that the organisation, the council and the club had been able to arrange a special event. He noted the community spirit and togetherness seen across the town in the lead-up to the final, with businesses and residents showing their support. He encouraged everyone to attend and support local businesses during the celebrations.
Coleraine FC Chief Executive Officer Dale Pryde-MacDonald expressed the club’s delight that the event would take place in the town centre. He acknowledged the backing of the local community as crucial to the cup success and said it was humbling to have that effort recognised. He added that the club hoped the day would set a positive tone for the 2026/27 season.
