Omagh Pride returns for sixth year with new parade start point
Omagh Pride will take place on Saturday, 14 September, with the parade setting off from the Oasis Plaza at 2pm for the first time in its six-year history.
The theme for this year's event is 'Stand Up, Be Proud', chosen to empower the local LGBTQ+ community.
Omagh Pride chair Oisín Donnelly said the move to the new starting point increases visibility and engagement, helping the parade grow. He highlighted the importance of rural Pride events in creating safe spaces where people of all ages can embrace their identities.
Donnelly noted that seeing individuals who might normally feel uncomfortable with their sexuality celebrate proudly in their hometown is powerful.
The event will feature charity and craft stalls, drag performers, and live bands, including the return of vocal ensemble Quire.
Donnelly stressed that the volunteer-led organisation relies entirely on donations and grant applications, with no core funding. He encouraged local people to get involved, saying volunteers and donations are essential to the event's survival.
The committee aims to place queer joy at the centre of the day. Donnelly said everyone deserves supportive environments, regardless of where they live, and that the parade will go ahead whatever the weather.
