Suspect Hadi Alodid has been charged with attempted murder following a knife attack in Belfast. He faces additional charges of threats to kill an NHS radiographer and possessing a knife, and has been remanded in custody.

The attack, which was captured on video, left 40-year-old Stephen Ogilvie with serious injuries including the loss of his left eye. His family reported he is in a stable condition.

Maitiu Mág Tighearnán, a 32-year-old from west Belfast, intervened during the incident, striking the knifeman with a hurley before police arrived. He was returning from hurling practice with a friend, Andre, when they encountered the scene. Mág Tighearnán described his actions as a natural instinct and said he believed many from his community would have done the same.

A fundraising page set up to show appreciation for Mág Tighearnán has collected more than £30,000. He stated he would share the money with Mr Ogilvie and his family. Alongside fundraiser organiser Niall Donnan, Mág Tighearnán announced a dedicated fundraising appeal for the victim, with an initial contribution of £10,000.

Mág Tighearnán expressed a desire to visit Mr Ogilvie to see his recovery. He said he had spoken briefly with a member of the victim's family, who thanked him for his intervention. He added that the public response had been overwhelming and that he generally prefers to maintain a low profile.
