Eight gymnasts from Toome have been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the National Finals in London this November.

The athletes, from Elite Gymnastics Academy, earned their places through the British Gymnastics-backed National Gymnastics League season. Their selection was confirmed during training last week.

The gymnasts are Jenna McErlain, Dayah Doherty, Willow Currie, Isabel McErlean, Rebekah Rice, Cassie Evans, Maisie Hamill, and Anna Rose Caskey.

Head coach Christine Shannon said the achievement was a reflection of the gymnasts' hard work and determination, as well as the commitment of the coaching team in preparing them for the season.

Elite Gymnastics Academy opened in 2020 and has since become one of Northern Ireland's largest dedicated gymnastics facilities. The club's coaches are all former gymnasts.

Last year, the academy received the British Gymnastics Northern Ireland Inclusion Impact Award for its GymAbility programme, which supports children and young people with additional needs.

Earlier this year, Shannon was named British Gymnastics Development Coach of the Year. The award recognises coaches who support and inspire gymnasts at every stage of their development.

The club continues to offer classes for all ages and abilities, with a schedule of summer activities planned.
