PSNI release footage in renewed appeal for west Belfast attempted murder
Police investigating the attempted murder of a taxi driver in west Belfast last year have released video footage of a man they want to speak to and renewed a reward of up to £20,000.
Sean O'Reilly was shot as he sat inside his taxi on the morning of 23 February 2025 in the Bell Steel Manor area. He was 49 at the time and survived after surgery to remove a bullet.
Detective Inspector Jack Kelly said a number of shots were fired in what he described as a targeted and cold-blooded attempt to take a man's life. It happened in broad daylight in a busy area when any passer-by could have been hurt or killed. He said such premeditated violence has no place in society and police remain determined to bring those responsible to justice.
Police have now released footage of a man they believe may be able to help the investigation. Detective Inspector Kelly urged anyone who recognises him to get in touch, and asked the public not to speculate about his identity or post comments on social media.
The charity Crimestoppers, which is independent of police, is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information received directly that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person linked to the attempted murder. Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online.
Anyone with information can also contact police on 101, quoting reference 664 of 23/02/25.
