A song written in support of residents of the Garvaghy Road in Portadown has been streamed over one million times on social media, according to its writer.

Chloe Fortune, a 22-year-old musician from Wexford, said she composed the song after seeing images of protests on the road. She posted the song online and was subsequently invited by residents to perform it on the Garvaghy Road.

Fortune stated she wrote the song on a Wednesday and performed it on the road the following Friday. She described the experience as surreal, noting that she had seen the road on the news and was then visiting the area days after events there.

During the performance, Fortune said, some onlookers were visibly emotional, including people who had experienced events in the area years ago.

Fortune, who has been performing for two years, said the song gained traction on TikTok and her following grew, allowing people to learn about the situation on the Garvaghy Road.

She acknowledged receiving some hate comments on videos of the performance, which she said she largely ignored.

The song is available on Spotify.
