Lurgan man jailed for 14 years after rape and child abuse images found
A 50-year-old man from Lurgan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to 15 sexual offence charges including rape and possession of indecent images of children.
Warren Conn, formerly of Kings Park Mews, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on May 28. The charges followed the discovery by a woman of a 25-minute video on an old mobile phone that showed Conn assaulting her.
The victim had no memory of being filmed and had not consented to any of the sexual acts recorded. Detectives said the footage led to a digital forensic examination that uncovered additional recordings showing Conn had raped her.
Conn was arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland at his home in County Armagh, where he had moved after living in Sandwich, Kent. Officers seized two mobile phones and a laptop, which were later examined by Kent Police’s Digital Forensics Unit and found to contain a large quantity of indecent images of children.
He was subsequently transferred to Kent Police officers in Belfast and flown back to Kent. Following three interviews over two days, Conn admitted the offences and pleaded guilty to all charges.
A Kent Police detective praised the victim’s courage and said the case demonstrates that victims can come forward no matter how much time has passed and will be taken seriously.
