Modifications to NIE Networks' distribution licence came into effect on 18 May 2026. The changes implement a Department for the Economy decision to socialise a greater share of electricity network reinforcement costs.

The Utility Regulator published its decision paper on the licence modifications in March 2026. The modifications transfer part of the reinforcement costs from individual connecting customers to electricity consumers across the network.

NIE Networks has updated its Statement of Connection Charges to reflect the new cost allocation. The revised statement will take effect on 1 July 2026.

Applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026 will be assessed under the updated charging framework. The revised Statement of Connection Charges is published on the NIE Networks website.
