Four people were arrested in Cookstown, County Tyrone, on Wednesday 27 May as part of an international money laundering investigation.

The National Crime Agency detained three men aged 45, 49 and 65, and a woman aged 37, in a joint operation with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

In a coordinated action, An Garda Síochána arrested two men in their 30s and 60s in the Republic of Ireland.

Officers seized £176,000 during searches linked to the arrests.

The operation follows earlier arrests in Newry in November 2025, when €450,000 and £258,000 were recovered.

NCA branch commander David Cunningham said organised crime gangs across the island of Ireland work together to recycle cash from criminality.

He said cutting off funding streams to these gangs is a priority for all agencies tackling serious and organised crime.
