Derry City and Strabane District Council reported 399,478 overnight trips to the district in 2025.

NISRA figures showed a 35% increase in overnight trips from 2024, a 28% rise in nights stayed to 1,206,934, and a 13.5% increase in visitor spend to £93,579,475.

The growth rate surpassed the Northern Ireland average of 9% for overnight trips.

Mayor Ruairi McHugh stated that the increase reflects the district's appeal as a tourism destination and the contribution of cultural events and heritage sites.

Tourism Manager Jennifer O'Donnell noted that tourism supports jobs and businesses, with nearly £94 million generated in visitor spend.

Chief Executive Odhran Dunne of Visit Derry said the figures demonstrate the impact of investment in tourism promotion and partnerships.

The council is preparing a new Tourism Action Plan for 2026-2031 based on the 2025 results.

Separately, the council has scheduled a month-long Heritage Month programme titled Walled City Alive for June, featuring tours, exhibitions, music sessions and the Foyle Maritime Festival.
