Road resurfacing works to begin on Maytown Road in Bessbrook
Road resurfacing on the B133 Maytown Road in Bessbrook will begin on 1 June 2026.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins announced a £695,000 scheme to resurface 2.2km of the route between McShane’s Road and the junction with the C214 Kingsmill Road.
The project will be delivered in two phases. Phase one will focus on drainage repairs and improvements and will require weekday closures from 8am to 6pm between 1 June and 31 July 2026.
The road will remain open in the evenings and at weekends. A signed diversion will route traffic via the C214 Kingsmill Road, u5104 Tullywinney Road, B134 Tullyah Road, A25 Newry Road, A25 Newtown Road, A25 Old Road, A25 Main Street, A25 Camlough Road, B133 Millvale Road and B133 Maytown Road.
Phase two, involving the main asphalt resurfacing, will take place later in the year with dates to be announced.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and to allow extra time for journeys while the works are carried out. Local access will be maintained where possible.
The Department for Infrastructure has stated that all timings remain subject to weather conditions and any changes will be publicised.
