The Department of Health has published raw disease prevalence data for Northern Ireland covering 2025/26. The figures cover 14 conditions recorded by all 305 general practices in the region.

Data includes prevalence rates for asthma, hypertension, dementia and diabetes. Information is broken down by local commissioning group, GP federation and individual practice.

The figures are drawn from voluntary submissions to the General Practice Intelligence Platform. Practices continue to maintain disease registers under the Northern Ireland Contract Assurance Framework that replaced the previous Quality and Outcomes Framework.

Some conditions are measured against the full practice population while others apply age-specific criteria. Chronic kidney disease covers patients aged 18 and over and diabetes covers those aged 17 and over.

A report and interactive dashboard accompany the release. The data shows raw rates without adjustment for age, gender or other demographic factors.

Northern Ireland estimates at least 25,000 people currently live with dementia, with projections reaching 43,000 by 2040. A new regional dementia awareness e-learning programme has been launched for Health and Social Care staff during Dementia Action Week.

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt said the training aims to improve understanding of dementia and support better care in hospitals, homes and residential settings. The module was developed by the HSC Clinical Education Centre with input from people living with dementia, universities and the community sector.
