A Castlederg man has been fined £500 at Strabane Magistrates Court for improper use of public communications.

The man appeared before District Judge Alana McSorley and had pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court heard that in early May 2023 police received a report from the man alleging his then-wife had threatened him with a knife at their home.

The man provided police with video evidence of the incident in which his wife was topless.

The woman later reported to police that the man had sent the video to family members and caused her distress.

The man accepted sending the video when interviewed.

The judge described the offence as aggravated by its domestic nature and imposed the fine along with a two-year restraining order.
