Czech Rider Kamil Holan Named After Fatal North West 200 Qualifying Crash
Kamil Holan, a 48-year-old rider from Prague in the Czech Republic, died during a Superbike qualifying session at the North West 200 on May 7. The incident occurred at Station Corner on the Triangle circuit near Portrush, Portstewart, and Coleraine.
Organisers Coleraine and District Motor Club confirmed the rider succumbed to injuries after emergency services attended. The session was red-flagged immediately following the crash.
Holan's family initially requested his name not be released but later gave permission. They also approved continuation of the event.
Organisers released Holan's name on May 8 after family approval. The schedule for May 7 evening was revised to include additional qualifying sessions instead of planned races.
Holan's team, Hefty74 Motoškola, based in Prague, issued a statement describing him as a friend of great character and an experienced racer. The team noted his participation in the North West 200 since 2022.
This marks the first fatality at the North West 200 since Malachi Mitchell-Thomas died in a Supertwins race crash on May 14, 2016. Twenty competitors have died at the event since 1939.
The North West 200 runs on public roads around the Triangle circuit on Northern Ireland's Causeway Coast.
