A fundraising team has collected more than £11,000 for two organisations that treated a Strabane baby born with biliary atresia, a rare liver disease.

Koa Arbuckle was born on November 13. At 17 days old, he was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital due to jaundice concerns. Two days later, surgeons diagnosed the condition and performed a Kasai procedure using part of his small intestine to create new bile ducts.

Biliary atresia blocks the ducts carrying bile from the liver to the gallbladder. Most patients require a liver transplant before age 20.

Koa has returned home to parents Ciara and Sean in Strabane, County Tyrone.

Team Koa participated in the Belfast Marathon last weekend as part of the family's campaign. The effort has generated £11,600.

Funds will support the Altnagevlin Parents Support Group and Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
