Derry City and Strabane District Council's planning committee has approved a new play park in the Coshquin area. The site sits adjacent to Little Acorns Pre-School on Benview Road and opposite Cosh Bar and Grill.

The facility will offer play equipment, safety surfacing, enclosed fencing, gated access, seating, bins and cycle stands. Planners included new footpaths, maintenance access, tree and shrub planting, grassed areas and signage.

Designers focused on accessibility through level pathways and features for all abilities. The project updates a prior approval and awaits funding for construction.

Council members stated the play park will support community infrastructure around Coshquin and Buncrana Road. It complements local residences and the pre-school while encouraging outdoor activity.

The plan incorporates sustainable drainage and landscaping. Officials found no major environmental or traffic effects. Consultation drew no objections.

Planning Committee Chair John Boyle called the approval a key step. He noted it provides a safe space for children and young people in Coshquin.
