CAFRE Enniskillen Students Tour Thoroughbred Stud Farms
Second-year BSc (Hons) Equine Management students from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) Enniskillen Campus finished a two-day study tour of Thoroughbred stud farms. The tour supported their Applied Enterprise Management module coursework, where they evaluated stallions for CAFRE Thoroughbred broodmares.
Students visited Tally Ho, Derrinstown, Kildangan, Rathbarry, Glenview, The Beeches, Grange, Castlehyde and Coolmore Headquarters. They examined Flat and National Hunt stallions, assessed conformation and pedigree compatibility, and learned commercial trends in Thoroughbred breeding.
At Ballydoyle Racing, CAFRE graduate Chris Armstrong gave students a tour and shared information on training, breeding decisions and industry expectations.
Ashlee McEntee said the tour allowed students to gain expertise from industry leaders on assessing stallions for compatibility with mares. Michaela Doran noted the importance of selecting stallions suited to specific mares and the value of visiting various studs and meeting experts.
