Two Men Face Charges Over Larne Leisure Centre Arson in Anti-Immigration Unrest
Two men from Larne appeared in Ballymena Magistrates Court on charges linked to the arson attack on Larne Leisure Centre during anti-immigration disorder last June.
Paul White, 25, of Fairway in Larne, faces charges of arson at the leisure centre on June 11. He is also accused of riotous behaviour and criminal damage at the same location and date. White faces an additional charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice on June 14 by trying to access the email and password of an anti-immigration Facebook account after a co-accused was arrested.
Nathan Gilbert Clifford, 33, of Drumahoe Gardens in Larne, is charged with publishing information on Facebook on June 11 that could encourage offences including riotous behaviour, criminal damage, intimidation or affray. Clifford faces further charges of sending a menacing message on a communications network on June 13 and possession of cannabis on June 14.
The disorder began in Ballymena last June and spread to Larne in the following days. The arson at Larne Leisure Centre on June 11 caused over one million pounds in damage.
Prosecutors stated that video imagery analysis will be completed by May 18. A report on information from Meta, which operates Facebook, is due by mid-May.
The cases were adjourned until May 28.
