Northern Ireland boxers collected three medals, including one gold, at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Jon McConnell won gold in the men's 70kg division on his first appearance at the Games. He faced a competitive field but emerged as champion.

Kaci Rock secured silver in the women's 65kg category, also in her debut competition. She progressed to the final before being edged out for gold.

Michaela Walsh added to the tally with a silver in the women's 57kg event. The medal is her fourth in four consecutive Commonwealth Games, an achievement that highlights her sustained performance.

Sport NI, the agency responsible for developing sport in Northern Ireland, congratulated the athletes. Interim chief executive Richard Archibald described the debut medals as outstanding and praised Walsh's consistency and her role in inspiring future female boxers.

The boxers received support through Sport NI's National Lottery funded Athlete Award and its Sports Institute, which assist elite athletes with training and preparation. Archibald noted that the results reflect the strength of the boxing system in Northern Ireland, supported by Lottery funding for clubs, coaches and programmes.

Team NI's boxing success in Glasgow continues a long run of Commonwealth medals for the region.
