Thousands of spectators gathered in Brookeborough, County Fermanagh, on Saturday for the annual Royal Black Institution parade. The event, hosted by Brookeborough Victoria RBP 487, drew an estimated crowd of more than 3,500 people and around 2,000 participants.

Thirty-five preceptories and the same number of marching bands took part. The bands included Ballyreagh Silver, Tempo Accordion, Enniskillen Pipe, Auld Boys Flute, and Derryfubble Accordion Band, which led the procession.

The parade marked the 337th anniversary of the Battle of Newtownbutler, a 1689 Williamite victory. Local historian Simon Wiggins gave a talk on the battle.

Sovereign Grand Master Rev William Anderson spoke at the demonstration field. He said the event draws sir knights from the border counties of Fermanagh, Cavan, and Monaghan. He described the day as a celebration of history and culture and a witness to the Reformed Christian faith. He noted that the banners displayed scriptural truths.

County Grand Master Neville McElwaine said the parade provides an opportunity to renew friendships, strengthen bonds of brotherhood, and publicly affirm the institution’s principles of faith, loyalty, integrity, and service to communities.

Worshipful Master of RBP 487 Wesley Graydon thanked Fermanagh and Omagh District Council for its sponsorship and the PSNI for its guidance on the parade. The preceptory marks its 140th anniversary in November.

The parade is held annually on the first Saturday of August.
