New TV Series Tracks PSNI Officers in Daily Operations Across Northern Ireland
A new television series, Peelers: The PSNI For Real, presents footage of Police Service of Northern Ireland officers responding to drug dealers, stolen car pursuits and hostile crowds. Presenter Stephen Nolan accompanied a PSNI team for two years to capture these operations.
The programme begins on BBC One Northern Ireland at 10:40 pm on Monday, 27th April. All episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer.
Nolan joined officers at a confrontation with a crowd in East Belfast involving a convicted sex offender. Police officers devised a plan to calm the crowd and remove the individual safely.
In another segment, officers addressed a woman causing a disturbance at the Balmoral Hotel. The series includes unscripted moments with officers speaking informally.
PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher stated the series shows frontline officers' daily efforts to keep communities safe across Northern Ireland. He noted their professionalism, resilience and humanity in challenging situations. Boutcher supports openness and transparency in policing.
Nolan described the officers' quick decision-making and relentless workload. He said young officers face exhaustion from constant calls.
