James McKenna, 70, from Crosskeys Road near Ahoghill, registered an alcohol in breath reading of 62 after police stopped him driving past 10pm on March 30. The legal limit stands at 35.

McKenna appeared at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday. Court records show prior relevant entries on his driving record from 2013 and 2022.

He had visited the Crosskeys Inn that evening. His barrister stated he decided to drive a short distance home despite the risk.

The court imposed a two-year driving ban on McKenna and a fine of £400.
