Sinn Féin MLA Danny Baker is to meet the PSNI to demand stronger enforcement after scramblers and motorbikes were driven recklessly along the Stewartstown Road on Monday evening.

The West Belfast representative said the vehicles mounted pavements and put local residents at serious risk. He spoke to people who described near misses, including pedestrians walking on footpaths.

Baker warned that it was only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured if the behaviour continues. He said the incidents caused disruption along the road, affecting people trying to visit shops or return home.

The MLA was at the scene alongside local youth workers, engaging with young people and residents. He appealed directly to parents to speak to their children about the risks involved, for their own safety and the safety of the community.

Baker stated that he will press for more effective preventative measures to ensure residents can feel safe in their own area.
