Justice Minister cautions against online speculation after Ballymena deaths
The Police Service of Northern Ireland is investigating the circumstances of deaths in Ballymena, and confirmed on Tuesday that an eight-year-old girl was among the victims.
Justice Minister Naomi Long responded to the tragedy by urging the public to avoid speculation online as the investigation continues. She expressed shock and extended her sympathy to those affected, thanking police officers and first responders who attended the scene.
She encouraged anyone in need of support to contact health and social care services or help provided by the voluntary and community sector. She stressed the importance of affording privacy and respect to the families and friends of the deceased.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Thomas Gordon, said the incident had shocked the local community. He offered his condolences and said his thoughts were with all those impacted. He also thanked the emergency services and called for anyone with information to assist the police to come forward.
The PSNI has not released further details about the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
