Public Inquiry into Greencastle Gold Mine Interrupted by Recording Incident
A public inquiry into plans for a gold mine in Greencastle stopped this afternoon at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh. The halt came after a man was seen recording the hearings.
Police attended the scene on the sixth day of the inquiry run by the Planning Appeals Commission.
The man stated he required the recording to track the proceedings. He cited a disability from a brain injury as his reason.
He also indicated he is pursuing a legal challenge against the commission for not providing him assistance.
Commission rules prohibit recordings. The inquiry lacks online streaming and an official transcript.
The auditorium cleared following the incident. The man departed voluntarily afterward.
The inquiry examines the controversial gold mine proposal in Greencastle, County Tyrone.
