The public inquiry into Dalradian's proposed gold mine at Greencastle in County Tyrone has been extended, with hearings now scheduled to run until November 12, 2025.

The Planning Appeals Commission, which oversees the inquiry, released an updated timetable confirming the new end date. The inquiry was originally expected to finish by June of this year.

Dalradian first submitted its planning application to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in 2017. The Canadian company aims to extract gold, silver, and copper from a site in the Sperrins and has said the development would bring major economic benefits to the area.

The inquiry was called in 2021 by then-Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon due to the scale and complexity of the proposal.

Proceedings opened in early 2025 but were suspended after two-and-a-half days when it emerged the Department for Infrastructure had not notified the Irish government and Donegal County Council, breaching its own regulations.

The inquiry reconvened in April at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh and has since heard evidence on a range of issues. Local opposition to the mine has been expressed during the process.
