Dungannon Man Fined £400 for Abusing PSNI Officers
Edgaras Spirgys, 21, from Park Road in Dungannon, received a £400 fine at Dungannon Magistrates' Court for verbally abusing police officers.
The incident occurred on February 8 during night duties in the Irish Street area of Dungannon. Police responded to a disturbance at a takeaway where Spirgys was found topless and acting aggressively toward members of the public.
Officers warned him to calm down. He walked away briefly but returned to argue with a female. Police intervened by pushing him back from her.
Spirgys then directed hostile abuse at the officers. He shouted threats including that he would put an officer's head through glass or the ground. He also used homophobic slurs against them.
Despite repeated warnings, he continued swearing and using slurs after his arrest.
District Judge Francis Rafferty told Spirgys he disgraced himself and that people should enjoy nightlife without such disruption. The judge noted Spirgys knew what he was saying.
A defence barrister stated Spirgys has perfect command of English and no prior record. The barrister added he had been assaulted before the incident but accepted this did not excuse his actions.
