Enniskillen Hosts Northern Ireland's First Sarcoidosis Patient Day
The Enniskillen Sarcoidosis Support Group will host Northern Ireland's first Sarcoidosis Patient Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Fermanagh House in Broadmeadow, Enniskillen, BT74 7HR.
The event starts at 9.30am with registration and exhibitions from various charities. Morning presentations include Dr Mary Dooher, Consultant Clinical Psychologist; Professor Seamas Donnelly, Professor of Medicine at Trinity College Dublin; Professor Monica Monaghan, Consultant Cardiologist; and Lisa McManus, Chief Respiratory Physiologist. A patient will share their experience with the condition.
Afternoon sessions feature Dr Paul Minnis, Consultant Respiratory Physician, and Professor Terence McManus, Respiratory Consultant with the Western Health and Social Care Trust. Another patient case study will be presented.
Sarcoidosis involves granulomas forming in the body, often affecting the lungs and causing fatigue. It impacts up to 2000 people in Northern Ireland and 7000 in Ireland. The condition has no known cause or cure but can be managed with treatments like corticosteroids.
The Enniskillen group, facilitated by Wendy Watson, has supported sufferers and families for over 15 years. It holds regular meetings in Fermanagh House and organises social events. New cases are diagnosed monthly, drawing members from Fermanagh, Tyrone and border counties.
