Pupils at St Dympna's Primary School in Dromore presented the school's first full production, titled The Yellow Brick Road, last month. The show took place at St John's Business & Enterprise College.

The production drew audiences including pupils from neighbouring schools, families and community members. Primary Five to Primary Seven pupils performed group songs, dances and solo numbers.

The story centred on Dorothy's journey from Kansas to the land of Oz, where she met a Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion. The characters confronted challenges from the Wicked Witch of the West before finding courage, love, intelligence and the way home within themselves.

Staff created bright backdrops, props and costumes to depict scenes from Munchkinland to the Emerald City.

Principal Orla Meenagh expressed pride in the pupils' talent in music, drama and dance. She stated that the children invested fully in rehearsals and that the event marked an exciting milestone for the school.

Meenagh thanked staff members including Miss McElhatton, Mrs N Burns, Miss McFarland and Mrs C Burns for their vision and leadership. She also acknowledged contributions from teams handling marketing, technology, stage management, costumes, makeup and venue preparation, plus sponsors, families and the Parent Support Group.

Special thanks went to Ms McNamee and staff at St John's College for providing the hall and facilities. Teachers said the preparation developed pupils' teamwork, communication and resilience.
