A pin badge sold to mark last year's Moygashel bonfire in Tyrone features refugees in a boat and the slogan 'Stop the Boats'. The item carries the phrase 'Hard Truths, Solid Roots' and costs £5.

SDLP councillor Malachy Quinn from the Torrent area spoke out against the badge after seeing it promoted on social media by the Moygashel Bonfire Association. He called it an instance of hate sold for profit and stated that it targets vulnerable people in a divisive way.

Quinn urged people to report the item and refuse to buy it. He said those producing or selling it should feel shame.

The Moygashel Bonfire Committee responded on Facebook. They thanked Quinn for boosting sales and described the badges as in high demand, with a new batch ordered.

The committee accused Quinn of trying to stay relevant while ignoring risks from illegal immigration. They pointed to comments on his post as reflecting public views.
