A security alert in the Castlereagh area of south Belfast has led to the closure of Manse Road.

Police have sealed off the road between its junctions with Garland Hill and Church Road. Motorists and members of the public are being urged to avoid the area.

Ammunition technical officers have been deployed to the scene, Alliance councillor Jamie Harpur said. He asked local residents to follow police advice until the incident is resolved.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed the alert and the road closure, requesting that the public stay away. No further details about the nature of the alert have been released.
